Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening, sometimes referred to as teeth bleaching, is a highly effective and affordable procedure that lightens and whitens teeth. There are 3 types of Teeth Whitening procedures commonly used to whiten teeth. The first type of whitening involves ‘over the counter’ strips that are often sold in drugstores and supermarkets. They are most effective in much younger people (teenagers) who have not had the years of accumulated staining that adults tend to have. At-Home Teeth Whitening uses a much stronger whitening gel in custom fitted trays that are fabricated by our office. The third type, In-Office power whitening, utilizes an even stronger gel that is activated by a special light and must be placed under careful professional supervision.
In-Office Tooth Whitening Procedure ( ZOOM whitening)
After the teeth and gums have been carefully protected, a strong tooth whitening solution is placed on every tooth. The solution is then light activated and kept in place for about an hour. The starting color as well as the ability of your teeth to lighten will help determine the number of tooth whitening treatments required.
At Home Tooth Whitening
At Bryn Mawr Dental Associates, this procedure starts with accurate impressions of your teeth. A skilled auxiliary then makes precise models and designs custom-fit whitening trays. You will be trained on how to achieve the best results while minimizing the likelihood of any side effects. Solutions are used from 30 minutes to 6 hours at a time, depending on their strength.
How White Can My Teeth Get?
This is, without a doubt, the first and most often question asked of us when we discuss whitening procedures with our patients. Everyone’s teeth have a unique and inherent lightness potential. While the teeth whitening process can lighten teeth, it cannot change the intrinsic color of a tooth. Some teeth will achieve excellent and rapid lightening, while others will lighten slightly or more slowly.
The doctors and staff of Bryn Mawr Dental Associates are well trained in all aspects of tooth whitening. We will be more than happy to discuss the different approaches to whitening your teeth and what may be best for your individual situation.
